Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day—observed annually on October 16—are the biggest days of advocacy and action for cats.
Alley Cat Allies launched National Feral Cat Day in 2001 to recognize, advocate for, and act on behalf of community cats across the United States. As our movement to protect and improve cats’ lives gained international strength, we launched Global Cat Day to recognize that cats are community members worldwide.
The Global Cat Day and National Feral Cat Day message is simple but powerful: Cats Are Community™.
Cats coexist in harmony and balance with wildlife, including birds, in environments across the globe.
All cities, towns, states, and countries should have laws and resources that recognize and protect cats as the community members they are.

Global Cat Day is a day to embrace the global truth that Cats Are Community™. This powerful statement is recognition that cats have lived alongside us for thousands of years, have a rightful place in our communities, and are beings with inherent value who deserve to be protected.
Cats are our family, our friends, and our neighbors, whether they are community cats who live outdoors among us or companion cats who live indoors with us. Our unique relationships with them span thousands of years and cross every border.
Every neighborhood, village, town, city, and country worldwide must have policies and programs that protect cats as community members. That is the thought leadership and change Global Cat Day is all about.
National Feral Cat Day
National Feral Cat Day is the action component of Global Cat Day—a day for people worldwide to roll up their sleeves and go out into their communities to create lifesaving change for cats.
Whether you do Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), fight against opposition to community cats by educating officials and community members, or come together with your community to build outdoor shelters to improve cats’ lives, your National Feral Cat Day Action makes a difference.
