I currently live in the United Kingdom. Before moving to the UK, I lived in Philadelphia and I was a teacher. Since I already taught kids, I decided I wanted my volunteer “job” to be with animals. I decided to volunteer with a motivated group of people who advocated spaying and neutering for cats and dogs. I volunteered for years with The Spayed Club. Initially I asked the club president to allocate me with any type of paperwork. It would be too heartbreaking for me to ‘rescue’ animals but I decided I could put my volunteer efforts into other jobs. I became the club bookkeeper.
I absolutely loved volunteering for this group and being “behind the scenes.” Someone had to pay the bills, file the tax forms and produce monthly statements for the accountants. I was so thankful that I could help a great cause. It is so important to spay and neuter dogs and cats. It was a great experience that I had to give up when I moved to another country. Now I want to move home to USA and I plan to volunteer for another animal advocacy group.
