How to Save a Life

Ava Ciliberti, New York, United States

I met a cat in the lobby after service at Unitarian Universalist Church in Phoenix, a Siamese beauty with purple claw covers. She had been kept in a cage by a cruel breeder her whole life, approximately 8 years, until she was rescued by a kindly cat lady named Sherry. She scratched herself raw, hence the vinyl claw covers. Her intermediate foster caregiver was looking for another foster friend to help socialize her so that she could be friendly enough for a forever home. Unfortunately, I couldn’t keep her permanently, but I kept her for a few months and she became affectionate enough to become a pet for a family who had kids. I saved her life. ?
